Robert shares how he’s preparing for the April 5th “Hands Off!” protest, from anonymity gear to emergency planning, and offers a Protester’s Playbook series to help others get ready too.
I'm not an attorney so I don't give legal advice. That said, I have gathered from numerous sources and that's sprinkled throughout the entire series, which I link to in this post.
Are you looking for advice on a specific situation surrounding protesting?
If you can check in using that watch, it can also be used to locate you, identify you and track your movements. Take grandpa’s old one instead if you need to tell the time.
Burner phone best option. Don’t store any numbers in it or anything remotely sensitive. Memorise or write inside your cuff where it’s unlikely to be found. Clear the phone after talking or messaging. These are “interesting times”. Good luck.
I have been in touch with a local coordinator, and am standing by on the periphery at a safe location, a pre-arranged checkpoint which I know well. This same location, and the surrounding area will have relatively few marchers, but nearly full support and sympathy.
I'm not sure how well my contact knows this area, or its surroundings, but I'll be ready with encouragement, support, and a safe space if needed.
I have some numbers of lawyers which will be written on my arm and an email address of legal help because I heard that some detainees were given opportunity to send an email but not a phone call. I’m going with someone I trust and we have planned where/when to meet if we lose each other.
You might want to post what an actual lawyer would advise in this situation. That would be helpful.

The ACLU is a great legal resource: https://www.aclu.org/know-your-rights/protesters-rights
Thank you! I can't go but I can make a sign and put it up. . . We The People!! Be safe tomorrow =)
Making signs is great! Thank you.
Thank you for speaking out and being safe. Prayers you are safe and that this makes an impact.
Thank you very much.
Thank you, thank you — it will be my first street protest in 63 years
That’s awesome! I’d love to hear about your experience after if you’re willing to share it with me.
Will do …
I’d leave the watch at home with the phone if I were you.
For extra security?

That's fair. A burner phone could suffice.

Much appreciated. And "interesting times" indeed.

Sounds like a solid plan Wayne! Stay safe out there.
And you too, Robert!
Oh, I will be! I'm an old '60s/'70s style rebel, but learned mucho about what works and what doesn't.

Sounds like you're prepared! Great work. Stay safe out there!
