In the fight for justice, it's time to stop centering ourselves as white allies. Learn why the discomfort of listening and owning the work is a necessary part of meaningful support.
Black Americans face the threat of racial violence and injustice every single day. I agree: if they want to pass on marching in Hands Off protests, we whites have to stand up for them. It’s our turn to be courageous.
No this is not your fight. You will be targeted if you hit the street. This will at some point turn ugly, and we should all be aware of that. Black people have wisely made the decision to sit this one out.
Robert, I too am white. I think you misunderstood my comment. I think it wise for black people to take a back seat, so that they will not be targeted. I am willing to fight for democracy in what ever form that takes. My Dad worked in Navel Intelligence during WW11, and the Korean War. He was a prisoner of war. I will not allow his sacrifice to be lost.
That kind of courage and clarity is exactly what we need more of. Thank you for standing up, Julia—your neighbors are lucky to have you in their corner.
YES! That question—'How can I carry my part?'—is the work. Every day. And when we all do that together, real change happens. So grateful for your voice.

Let us not forget the hard work and emotional energy black women poured into Kamala's campaign. They are weary.
From what I've seen on social media, this is very, very true.

Hey Mary, thank you for your comment and your concern.
I hear you, and I agree that things will probably get uglier before they get better—authoritarianism doesn't go down quietly.
But I need to push back on the idea that this isn’t our, or my, fight.
White people such as myself absolutely have a role in standing up to injustice, especially when the harm is being done in our name.
It’s our responsibility to use our privilege to take risks, not avoid them. That’s not saviorism—it’s solidarity.
And solidarity means being willing to stand up, even when it’s dangerous or uncomfortable. Especially then.
And given I have trans and female family members who are constantly under attack by this administration, this is absolutely my fight.

Thank you Mary. I did misunderstand your comment. Thank you for correcting me. We're on the same page.
Sounds like your dad had to deal with a hell of a lot.
My grandfather was in the Navy during WWII and fought the nazis. I too will not allow his sacrifice to be lost.
So well said.
Let's keep fighting Mary!
i dont fight fascists to please anyone. Or to save the world or free the oppressed.
i fight them because theyre fascists.
Fight on!
💯
Grateful to be in this fight with you!
100% agree.. I am ready at any time to do a Barbara Frietchy or be a human shield or surrogate for my neighbors.

Exactly. Good approach.
Appreciate you. Staying grounded and clear is how we keep pushing forward—and your voice helps with that.
This is also something I'm seeing in Threads, and I agree with your assessment! Thanks for explaining it so eloquently.
Thank you so much Susan—I’m really glad it resonated.
How can I carry my part?.. we need to ask ourselves that question every single day. The burden should be on all of us. Let’s do this and let’s unify.
