April 5: Take to the Streets—Join the Nationwide Protests!
Why this protest matters and how you can stand up for your rights safely.
On April 5th, people across the country will be taking to the streets to make their voices heard.
I’ll be in Washington, D.C., standing alongside others who refuse to be silent in the face of facist authoritarianism and the rising dictatorship.
But this isn’t just happening in D.C.—protests will be taking place nationwide, and if you care about the future of democracy, this is your chance to show up.
Before you dive in—if you’re planning to hit the streets, make sure you stay safe and effective out there.
I’ve put together the Protester’s Playbook, a series of practical guides covering everything from what to wear to how to handle arrests.
Check it out before you go—it could make all the difference. 💪

What’s Happening?
The Hands Off 2025 movement is mobilizing people all over the U.S. to take a stand. This is about protecting our rights, our democracy, and our future. It’s about pushing back against authoritarian overreach and making it clear that we will not be silenced.
Why Now?
We are at a critical moment in history. The decisions made in the coming days and months will shape the future of this country, and sitting on the sidelines is not an option.
The people in power need to know that we are watching, we are engaged, and we will not back down.
The Power of Non-Violent Protest
History has shown us time and again that non-violent protest can lead to real, lasting change.
Some of the most impactful movements in history—like the Civil Rights Movement, Gandhi’s resistance against British rule in India, and the protests that brought down apartheid in South Africa—were successful because of the strategic use of peaceful resistance.
Non-violent protest disrupts the status quo, gains public sympathy, and applies pressure on those in power without escalating into violence.
When people show up in large numbers, the message is undeniable. Governments and institutions cannot ignore a movement when thousands—sometimes millions—of people demand change.
That’s why April 5th is so important: it’s about harnessing the power of peaceful resistance to protect our future.
How to Stay Safe at a Protest
Protesting is a powerful act, but preparation is key to ensuring you stay safe while making your voice heard. Here are some key safety tips:
Know your rights. Familiarize yourself with your rights as a protester. The ACLU has great resources on what to do if you’re stopped by police or confronted. This is a great starter video:
Dress appropriately. Wear comfortable clothing, sturdy shoes, and neutral colors to avoid being easily identified. Avoid wearing anything that could get caught or grabbed.
Bring essentials. Pack water, snacks, a first aid kit, and any medication you may need. Carry cash and an emergency contact number written down in case your phone is taken or disabled.
Stick with a group. Protesting is safer in numbers. Have a buddy system and check in with each other frequently.
Stay aware of your surroundings. Identify exit routes, avoid confrontations, and keep an eye out for any sudden changes in crowd behavior.
Protect your identity. If you’re worried about surveillance, consider wearing a mask, turning off biometric phone unlocking, and disabling location tracking on your phone.
Document responsibly. Recording events can be crucial, but be mindful of what you share to protect others' identities. If you witness misconduct, record discreetly and upload footage to trusted sources.

Canadian here who’ll be standing with you April 5th. 🇨🇦 🇺🇸 I only wish it could be in person. I’m about to share this far and wide with all my American friends with a request to pass it on. I’ll be watching from north of the border!
I’ll be there wearing my pink pussy hat, carrying damning signs, and shouting out PG-13-rated chants!
