How I'm Preparing for April 5th — and How You Can Too
Protesting with purpose, not panic — here’s how I’m showing up on April 5th, and how you can too.
On Saturday, April 5th, I’ll be out in the streets.
Not because I like protesting.
Not because I think it’s easy.
Because I believe it matters.
The April 5th protests are happening nationwide with a clear, urgent message: Hands Off!
Donald Trump and Elon Musk think this country belongs to them.
They’re taking everything they can get their hands on, and daring the world to stop them.
This protest is our response. Our line in the sand. Our chance to say, together:
Hands off our rights.
Hands off our democracy.
Hands off our future.

How I'm Preparing
I want to share my own protest prep, in case it helps you gear up, too.
Everyone shows up in their own way — this is mine:
Mental & Emotional Prep: Before I go, I’m planning to spend a few minutes centering myself — deep breaths, quick body scan, remembering why I’m doing this. Staying mentally grounded is part of staying safe and prepared.
Anonymity first: I’ll be wearing a plain hat, neck gaiter, cheap sunglasses, a moisture-wicking shirt, simple jacket and pants, and comfortable tennis shoes. Nothing flashy. Nothing traceable.
No phone: I’m leaving my phone at home. I’ll be using my Apple Watch to check in at regular intervals so people know I’m safe.
Navigation: I’ve printed out a map of the protest area and marked multiple exit routes.
Documentation: I’m bringing a body camera I’ve tested thoroughly, plus a high-def camera for photos and videos. I’m not livestreaming — I’ll edit media for privacy after the fact.
Preparedness: In my protest bag (just a plain backpack), I’ve packed hydration, snacks, and a basic first-aid kit.
In case of escalation: I’ve written a card with exactly what I’ll say if I’m approached by police, and I have emergency contacts written down.
This isn’t about fear. It’s about focus.
We can be safe, clear-eyed, and strategic as we show up for what we believe in.

I have some numbers of lawyers which will be written on my arm and an email address of legal help because I heard that some detainees were given opportunity to send an email but not a phone call. I’m going with someone I trust and we have planned where/when to meet if we lose each other.
